Dear Rockfield Community,
The end of this school year marks the end of my term as PTA president. To be honest when I started, I didn’t know what to expect and many times where I had absolutely no idea what to do. I was a fairly new Rockfield parent and didn’t have many relationships as of yet. Even though there were challenges, I had the belief that we could build a great community where we could raise money for the school, have parents & staff involved and make a fun environment for our kids.
This year highlighted how far we have come as a PTA and community with many involved moms and dads alike. I am so incredibly proud of what we were able to do, even with the pandemic, unknowns and strong opinions. At the end of the day, all of us put our differences aside and made it the best that we could. At the beginning of the year, we expected to barely break even on our budget and didn’t know if we could run any fun activities - but we were completely wrong.
The creativity and ingenuity of everyone came through and it showed. Even though we had to cancel Popcorn Fridays and Rocktober, we had many new events like Virtual Bingo, Virtual Halloween Spirit week and even had our Book Fair outside! Design contests were held such as the pumpkin carving contest, yearbook cover and student directory cover. We even were able to run our most successful fundraiser that I am aware of with Step it Up raising at least $17,500 at the time of this letter. With last Spring showing how much our teachers mattered, we ramped it up with our Staff Appreciation efforts as well as Staff Supply Requests to show how much we are grateful for what they do for our kids.
We have a great board starting next fall and I rest easy at night knowing that it is in good hands. Lindsey, Laurie, Gregg & Melissa will do a fantastic job of continuing our mission of Enhancing Rockfield Academics and the Parent, Teacher & Student Community. Thank you Rockfield for the opportunity to lead the PTA and do not hesitate to reach out anytime!
Sincerely,
~Richard Yu
