GTown PowerCongratulations to the powerlifting team, who competed in the 2025 Powerlifting America High School Nationals in Brookfield, WI, this past weekend. The team represented Germantown well, having the most competitors of any team, cheering the loudest, helping with setup and tear down, helping spot and load, helping with scorekeeping, and helping in any other way possible to ensure the meet ran smoothly.  Powerlifting America would like to give a huge shout-out and thank you to GTown Power for all their help during the event. Without Germantown’s athletes, coaches, and parents, the event would not have been a success.

Throughout the weekend, the team broke 77 Powerlifting America State Records and won 7 team awards, which included the Men's Equipped JV National Championship and the Women's Equipped Varsity National Championship. This marks the 4th consecutive year GTown Power has won a National Championship. While there were many highlights to the weekend, two standout moments included Kylei Kullas and Natalie Janke pulling their final deadlifts to secure their first national titles in two of the most competitive weight classes of the weekend.

Congratulations to JV National Champions Alivia Kullas, Ryan Melka, and Roman Passante, and Varsity National Champions Kylei Kullas, Natalie Janke, and MacKenzie Wells. Special congratulations to Ryan Melka, who was awarded JV Male Equipped Best Lifter, and MacKenzie Wells, who was awarded Varsity Equipped Female Best Lifter of the meet. Good luck to the team as they wait to see who is selected to represent Team USA at the North American Championships and the IPF World Championships this summer!

The team traveled to Illinois for the Quad Cities Classic featuring two premier golf courses,  Fyre Lake Golf Club and TPC Deere run in a two day event.  The boys played solid for the first round of the season with a 310 team score. Leading the way was Charlie Larson firing a 74 followed by Reid Newkirk and Trevor Newkirk's 78's. Brendan Fredrickson with an 80 and Preston Filter 86.

On Friday the team began play in the Hartford Invitational/King of the County tournament. 56 teams from all over the state compete for the overall title and 7 teams from Washington County compete for the King of the County.  Friday's round at Hartford GC was a struggle for the team, Charlie Larson played steady all day with a 2 over par 74, but the team shot a 320 and put themselves in the top third of the field.  Day 2 at Washington County GC was a different story, the team shot a 304 for a top 3 score on the day.  Leading the way was Charlie Larson with a 73, Brendan Fredrickson 75, Reid Newkirk 77, Preston Filter 79 and Trevor Newkirk 82.  The Warhawks Won the King of The County and placed 7th overall out of the 56 teams.  Individually Charlie Larson was tied for 6th place.

On Monday the Warhawks began conference play at New Berlin Hills - the windy conditions provided a true test.  Overall the scoring was high due to the conditions, but the Warhakws hung tough and finished at 165  and in second place.  Finishing in second place individually was Trevor Newkirk with a 38.

Girls SoccerThe girls took on Brookfield East on Tuesday, in their first home game of the season and a tough conference matchup.  Varsity ended up falling short 1-0. It was a great competitive, team effort - Lots to be proud of and learn from early in the year! Varsity is now 2-1 on the season. JV came out on top with 2-1 win.  Germantown jumped out to an early lead in the first half with goals by Claire Kamyszek and Claire Holke before going into halftime with a 2-0 lead.  Germantown defense held strong in the second half, and only conceded one goal, despite several chances generated by Brookfield East.  The win improves JV's record to 4-0 on the season.  Next up is another home game on Thursday/Today (4/17) vs Homestead. Come out and cheer on your girls soccer program! Next week we hit the road with games at Divine Savior Holy Angels and West Bend West.

LacrosseLacrosseLacrosseSMART TeamThe Germantown SMART Team (Students Modeling A Research Topic) presented their 3D printed model and poster at the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Conference in Chicago, on Saturday, April 12. The topic of the presentation was Unveiling the Role of Penicillin Binding Protein 4 in Hospital-Acquired Infections: Implications for Antibiotic Resistance and Treatment Strategies. The team worked with Maya Blau, a PhD/MD student at the Medical College of Wisconsin to write an abstract, create a poster and develop a 3D model of the protein. The Germantown SMART Team was one of 20 high schools from across the United States and Canada chosen to present their research at the conference. This was a huge accomplishment for the group as this is the first year of the program at GHS. Members of the team that presented at the conference include; Francine Buor, Amay Desai, Janiru Herath, Madison Matuszewski, Lucy Schmitz, and Jay Ticku. Other members of the team who contributed but were not able to attend were; Uma Goradia, Cassidy Nelson, Nishi Patel, Blake Thornberry, and Jimmy Zheng. Mrs. Griffin-Wenzel, a science and engineering teacher at GHS, serves as the SMART Team advisor.
