Warhawk Pride / Vol. 5, No. 29

The Warhawks opened their season with a 2-1 10-inning victory over Brookfield Central, with Carter Szohr and Brady Vincent combining to allow only 2 hits. The Warhawks took on Menomonee Falls Thursday and lost 15-0 to finish the GMC game week at 1-1.

Girls soccer has their next game on Tuesday, April 18 at Hamilton and then they are back home on Friday, April 20.  Good luck!

The varsity softball team split two games this week, defeating Wauwatosa East 8-7 on April 11 and losing to Sussex Hamilton 13-5 on April 12, moving their record to 2-1. 

Sarah Nasif (5 2/3 IP, 9 H, 2 BB, 5 K, 2ER) started in the circle against the Red Raiders and earned the win, with Kendal Thomas (1 1/3 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 0 ER) coming in to get the save. 

Back-to-back doubles by Skylar Bryl (2-4, 2B, R, RBI) and Kayla Preiss (1-4, 2B, R, RBI) got the Warhawks on the board in the second inning, and Maddy Balsiger (1-3, HR, R, 2 RBI) hit a two-run homer in the third to give them the lead.  Emmy Coulter (2-3, 2 R) also notched a multi-hit game. 

Against the Chargers, Balsiger (1-3, HR, R, RBI) hit a solo homer in the first – her third consecutive game with a home run – and Preiss (1-4, HR, R, RBI) launched a game tying homer to lead off the fourth.  Madison Werner (3-3, 2 RBI), Taylor Wilson (2-3, RBI), and Bryl (2-4) all had multi-hit games for the Warhawks. 

Hailey Williams (3 IP), Kendal Thomas (1 1/3 IP), and Sarah Nasif (1 2/3 IP) all saw action in the circle. 

The Warhawks look to avenge the loss to Sussex in their home opener on April 14, travel to Kenosha for a double header against Indian Trail Academy on April 15, hit the road again to face Brookfield Central on April 18, and come back home to battle West Allis Hale on April 20.

On Wednesday, April 12th, the Varsity girls competed in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Lady Spartan Invite hosted by Brookfield East. The team placed 4th overall and 15 girls set a new personal best in their events!   

Medaling performances included: 

Addison Braidigan placing 3rd in the 100m Dash (13.35) 

Kate Ittner placing 2nd in the 1600m Run (5:43.02)  

The 4x100m Relay Team of Macie Daniel, Miranda Leffler, Rylie Olson, and Addison Braidigan placing 2nd with a time of 53.05.

Elise Redeker placing 3rd in the 300m Hurdles (56.57)

Jurnee Clayberg placing 3rd in the Long Jump (16’ 0”)  

Piper Eby placing 3rd in the both the Shot Put (34’ 9”) and Discus Throw (105’ 0”)

Other scoring performances included:

Grace Weyda placing 4th in the 100m Hurdles (18.54)

Samyiah Fox placing 4th in the 1600m Run (5:59.66) 

Saniya Griffin placing 5th in the 200m Dash (29.61)

Claire Reedy placing 5th in the Pole Vault (7’ 0”) 

Addison Braidigan placing 4th in the Long Jump (15’ 10.5”)

Madeline Jakusz placing 4th in the Shot Put (34’ 1”) 

The 4x200m relay team of Blyss McCune, Jaylen Wetzel, Sydney Wagner, and Jurnee Clayberg placing 5th with a time of 2:03.33.  

The JV girls will compete in their first outdoor meet of the season on Tuesday, April 18th at West Allis Hale. The Varsity girls will compete next at home in the Germantown Invite on Thursday, April 20th. 

On Tuesday, April 11th the Varsity boys competed in the 54th Annual Mike Gain Spartan Invitational at Brookfield East where they scored 91 points, placing second out of twelve teams in their outdoor season opener. First place finishers include JV Myles in the triple jump (46-03), Dillon Walker in the 3200m run (9:35:21) and the 4x800m relay team consisting of Joey Knopp, Calvin Redeker, Bennett Krause and Jack Wanezek (8:31.58). Jayson Koel medaled twice, bringing home silver in the 100m dash (11.10) and Bronze in the 200m dash (22.89). Jonas Price scored a bronze medal in the 300m hurdles with a time of 42.33. 

Top-10 finishers included a 4th place finish by the 4x200m relay team consisting of Jonas Price, Vance Burnham, Darrius Peete and Joey Knopp (1:32.93), a 4th place finish by Michael Lenius and a 5th place finish by AJ Willard II, running 53.27 and 53.54 respectively, a 6th place finish by Charles Morrow in the 300m hurdles (44.34), a 5th place finish by Troy VerStrate and an 8th place finish by Cooper Walsh in the 800m run running 2:06.85 and 2:11.83 respectively, a 6th place finish by Eric Olson in the 3200m run (10:29.83), a 7th place finish by the 4x400m relay team consisting of Cody Rafn, Kyle Betz, Michael Otchere and Mason Kren (3:48.18), a 4th place finish by Josh Brunner in pole vault (11-06), a 6th place finish by Jonas Price and an 8th place finish by Vance Burnham in long jump, jumping 19-09 and 19-07 respectively, and a 4th place finish by Louis Williams III in triple jump (40-04.5).

Numerous athletes scored lifetime personal-bests this past week including Jack Wanezek in the 800m run (2:04.94) and Troy VerStrate in the 1600m run (4:46.10) during Saturday’s Wisconsin State Indoor Track and Field Championships. On Tuesday, lifetime personal-bests were scored in the 1600m run by Eric Olson (4:58.74) and Owen Oertel (5:06.47), in the 400m dash by Michael Lenius (53.27) and AJ Willard II (53.54), in the 300m hurdles by Charles Morrow (44.34), in the 800m run by Troy VerStrate (2:06.85), in the 200m dash by AJ Willard II (24.78), in the 3200m run by Dillon Walker (9:35.21) and Eric Olson (10:29.83), in shot put by Ethan Welke (39-10.5), Jackson Kirsch (39-09) and Henry Martinka (36-01), in discus by Henry Martinka (102-00), in pole vault by Josh Brunner (11-06), in long jump by Vance Burnham (19-07) and Mythais Polk (18-04.5) and in triple jump by Louis Williams III (40-04.5).

The JV boys will compete this coming Tuesday in the Hale JV Invitational at West Allis Hale and the Varsity boys will be here at home on Thursday where they will compete in the Germantown Outdoor Track & Field Invitational.
