6th Grade Courses

The following daily courses make up the KMS 6th Grade Curriculum: Literacy/ELA, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. 

Students also take the following coordinated arts courses every other day for a semester: Health Education, Exploring Technology Education, Exploratory Art, and Intro to Spanish/Intro to Foods, as well as Physical Education (meets every other day all year).

Music - Students in Grade 6 are required to take a music course every other day, all year. Course options are Band, Choir, or General Music. Students in Band and Choir perform in concerts as part of the class requirements. General Music is similar to elementary school music classes, but does not perform in concerts.

Health Education — Physical, social/emotional, and mental wellness are emphasized.

Exploring Technology Education — Students will explore many different units in this tech ed introductory course. Units include construction, manufacturing, engineering, design & modeling, and robotics.

Exploratory Art — Students will learn a variety of 2-D and 3-D art media.

Physical Education — Students will be involved in individual, partner, and team activities throughout the year. Learning about aerobic capacity and the importance/benefits of one's physical health will be emphasized.

Introduction to Foods - Students will learn about basic food nutrition,  an introduction of kitchen preparation skills, and receive an overview of food safety, kitchen equipment and terms, and understanding recipes.

Introduction to Spanish - Students will begin to learn the basics of understanding a foreign language.
